Welcome to my portfolio site! My name is Liz Lau and I am a self-taught freelance web designer and front- end developer. In my previous work experiences, I was a laboratory technician and research associate for academic research institutes and scientific companies for a span of 10 years. During those years, as side interests, I also had experiences working in audio recording and editing for audiobooks/podcasts, and updating and managing websites for companies.
While updating content for websites, I was curious as to how websites were built. So I decided as an endeavor to learn about web design and coding. Through watching many video tutorials and reading many google searched content on web coding, I built websites as a side interest through trial-and-error to learn how to design and code. From creating these websites, I learned a lot about web design and front-end development and discovered that I like building websites A LOT!!! Hmmmm, career change? Let’s give it a go! So here I am today. I enjoy discovering new methods and ideas on how to creatively build websites and constantly learning new things everyday.

I wanted to learn how to design and code within a CMS platform (content management system). So I created a WordPress website and Drupal websites. iJalapeno.com (Demo Website Currently) : Built with WordPress CMS platform designed over an e-commerce subtheme and plugins. It is an informational website with a demo ecommerce shop for jalapeño and spicy food enthusiasts. iJalapeño was an idea from my jalapeño-loving friend who loves everything spicy. So why not build a fun website devoted to this love? Side note, J.P. was created by me, not by a mysterious creator from another dimension...wink wink.
iJalapeno.com (Demo Website Currently) : Wordpress CMS Website
BiotechHubs.com (Demo Website Currently) : Built with Drupal CMS platform. It is an informational website where scientific/biotech companies or individuals can login to create and post content. Depending on login type - companies can create their profiles, post job openings, sell products in the marketplace, post questions or answer questions in the forum, update news/events, and write topics in the science blog. Individuals can view all content on the website, however they are only allow to post questions/answers in the forum and create blog entries.

TemplateStudioworks.com (Active Website) : Founder and Creator of this eCommerce responsive website built with Magento Adobe Commerce platform. Online store for purchasing website templates, offering services for template setup, creating custom website builds, hosting and domain registration. I do continual development, design, content updates and maintenance within Magento's eCommerce system.

donofrio.biz (Active Website) : Multi-page responsive website for client's construction contractor business in Brooklyn, New York. Website was built with HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap5, and javascript. Features include a carousel banner on the homepage, and lightbox galleries for construction category pages to view building processes.

TriangleNightlife.com (Active Website) : Multi-page responsive website built with Drupal CMS platform designed over a Bootstrap subtheme and modules. Triangle Nightlife is an informational website for nightlife activities and places to go in The Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill areas) in North Carolina. Local businesses can create an account to post/update a business venue profile in the nightlife listings and to also post/update events they are hosting. Users can search with filters to find events and venues they are interested in visiting. I do continual maintainance for updates in content pages, content writing, Drupal core and module updates.

Web Skills: Very good understanding of HTML5, CSS3, and Bootstrap5. Basic understanding of JavaScript and jQuery.

Web Experiences: Building custom websites without CMS, building websites within CMS platforms notably Drupal and Wordpress. Also have experience building, updating, and managing within Magento eCommerce system platform.

Education: B.S.in Biochemistry from SUNY Stony Brook, work experience specializing in molecular and cell biology. Certification in Audio Recording and Production from the Institute of Audio Research in NYC.
